Alexander Qi of the United States claimed the Under-18 title at the 40th World Youth Go Championship, held this week at the Sunway Resort Hotel in Malaysia.
Qi emerged as champion after a week of top-level international competition. Runner-up honors went to Shim Hyo Jun of Korea, with Li Sihan of China taking third place and Chen Ying-Chia of Chinese Taipei finishing fourth.
“These young talents have shown incredible skill, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament,” said the Malaysia Weiqi Association in a Facebook post. “We celebrate not only their achievements, but also the friendships and cultural connections built during this unforgettable event. A heartfelt thank you to all players, team leaders, organizers, and sponsors who made this championship possible. Together, we have carried forward the spirit of Go — wisdom, respect, and unity.”
